Two New Works to Illuminate Your Shadows

Meet THE BOOK OF SHADOW WORK, and Dr. Connie's revised edition of MEETING THE SHADOW

Dear Friends,

Today, I am thrilled to share two transformative projects that have been years in the making—one from my heart and one from a mentor and dear friend who has profoundly shaped my journey.

My first narrative nonfiction, THE BOOK OF SHADOW WORK, is officially out today! This book has been a labor of love, inspired by the countless voices and stories of those who embraced The Shadow Work Journal and sought to dive deeper into this practice.

At the same time, Dr. Connie Zweig, a pioneer in the field of shadow work and co-author of this Substack page, has released a newly revised edition of her anthology, Meeting the Shadow. This edition includes a powerful new epilogue that reimagines how shadow work can help us heal, both individually and collectively.

Let me tell you more about these works and why they matter now more than ever.

The Book of Shadow Work: My Journey and Yours

After the overwhelming response to The Shadow Work Journal, I realized how many of us are yearning for a deeper understanding of what shadow work truly is. This book is my attempt to answer the questions you’ve asked:

  • How does shadow work transform us?

  • How can it uncover talents and dreams we’ve buried?

  • How can it heal our relationships, not just with others but with ourselves?

This is not a workbook; it’s a guide, a companion for anyone ready to look into the mirror and face the truth of who they are. I’ve woven together my personal story, the stories of journalers from around the world, and the timeless teachings of shadow work to offer a soulful, modern approach to this ancient practice.

If you’ve ever wondered, Is this all there is? or Am I living as the fullest version of myself?—this book is my answer to you.

Meeting the Shadow: A Landmark Anthology by Connie Zweig

Connie’s work has always been a cornerstone in the world of shadow work, and this new edition of Meeting the Shadow is no exception.

Connie’s Meeting the Shadow is a brilliant anthology that delves into how the shadow shows up across every corner of life—dating, marriage, work, spirituality, politics, and creativity. It brings together the voices of 65 incredible thinkers, like Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, Ken Wilber, Susan Griffin, Robert Bly, Harville Hendrix, Robert Jay Lifton, Marie-Louise von Franz, and 60 others who have explored the dark, denied parts of ourselves that influence how we live, love, and create. This collection goes beyond personal reflection to show how the shadow influences the systems and relationships we’re part of every day. It’s a rich, layered exploration of what we often deny in ourselves—and how those denials ripple out into the world.

In the weeks ahead, Connie and I will be diving deeper into the ideas from both of our books right here on this Substack. We’ll explore how shadow work impacts different areas of life, sharing insights, reflections, and ways you can use these practices in your own journey. This is an invitation not just read our books but to live their teachings. We can’t wait to take this deeper dive with you.

What makes this edition special is Connie’s new epilogue—a reflection on how shadow work continues to evolve and its urgent relevance in today’s world. It’s a reminder that healing isn’t just personal; it’s collective.

I’ve read this book countless times, and yet every time, I find something new. It’s a profound reminder that our shadows are not our enemies but our teachers.

Why These Books Matter

We live in a world that often asks us to present only the polished parts of ourselves. But shadow work challenges us to go deeper, to embrace the messy, hidden aspects that hold so much power and potential.

If you are ready to break free from old patterns, release guilt and shame, and uncover the gifts buried within their shadows.

I couldn’t be more proud of these works, and I couldn’t be more honored to share this moment with Connie, whose wisdom and guidance have been a light in my life.

Thank you for being here, for doing this work, and for being part of a community that dares to look inward.

With love and courage,
Keila & Connie
